TCP’s orchestra, which plays from the Community Centre, upstairs from the theatre area, is, like all of TCP, made up of unpaid volunteers. Unlike TCP’s casts, however, membership in the orchestra is by invitation, and we draw most of our musicians from a large pool of professional and amateur players, many of whom have been with us for years.
When a particular show calls for an orchestra that we can’t fill, we do hold auditions, and we maintain a list of musicians who have expressed interest in joining our pit. Please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to be considered for future shows—or if you have any other orchestra-related questions. Send an E-mail to info@thecommunityplayers.com if you are interested in joining the Orchestra or would like more information.
We normally begin weekly orchestra rehearsals in early February: Tuesday evenings at the St. Agatha Community Centre. Rehearsals shift to the New Hamburg Arena in April, and show week is the second week of May, finishing up with an afternoon matinee on Mother’s Day. We require full commitment for that week, including tech and dress rehearsals starting on Saturday and Sunday, and at least one 11 a.m. student matinee. (All this is unlikely to change, but it’s possible.)
The normal schedule of shows is:
Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. – dress rehearsal
Thursday, 7:30 p.m. – Opening Night
Friday, 7:30 p.m. – show
Saturday, 2 p.m. – show
Saturday, 7:30 p.m. – show
Sunday, 2 p.m. – show
