Production Information
A New Day Has Begun!
As you enter through the mist, into the faded, dimly lit remnants of the old Trinity Theatre, they wait. A streetlamp glows beyond the remains of the brick stage wall. Above it all shines the Jellicle moon. Reminders of times past, including faded posters of former memories, props and set pieces from long ago, form a scattered playground of levels and visuals for the story that is about to unfold. The stage forms a unique shape, embracing the audience, both physically as well as atmospherically.
Upon closer examination, you notice that the stage offers many interesting paths and untraditional entrances, and you suspect (rightly!) that there are others that you haven’t noticed, perhaps even above and below the stage.
Everything is set. The lights dim. The first orchestral note is struck and the first Jellicle comes into view.
Presenting the 2010 Directing Team
Gord Davis, Director
Gord's work in theatre across Waterloo Region has thrilled audiences and earned him the respect of his peers. After building the Drama Program at Elmira District Secondary School into one of the most high profile and high quality programs in Ontario, he retired from teaching theatre to become a free lance director. In the last 8 years he has directed countless productions for various groups and organizations. Gord is presently the Resident Director for The Singers Theatre, a company which excels in innovative and challenging musical works for young people in Waterloo Region. One of his greatest joys has been working with the management team and members of The Community Players of New Hamburg and he is excited about, and looking forward to, coming back in 2010.
Jen Hoffman, Musical Director
Jen, who teaches at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate in Kitchener, has been the musical force behind TCP since 2000. She remains amazed by the talent that TCP manages to bring out year after year, and by the amount of time and work everyone puts in to make these shows both believable and unbelievable!
Richelle Hirlehey, Choreographer
Richelle’s involvement in dance first began as a young child enrolled in dance classes. After completing her Honours Kinesiology and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Western Ontario, Richelle was delighted to return to her home school, The Carousel Dance Centre, University of Waterloo, as a teacher. In 2005, she took on the roles of Dance Company Director and Assistant Director of the school. She continues as the Director of the Carousel Dance Company, Carousel Dance Centre Inc. in Waterloo and is the Educational Director of Dance Extreme where she also instructs and choreographs. . In addition to teaching, she choreographs for Original Kids Theatre Company, high schools in south western Ontario, London Musical Productions, her own company Barefoot Creative, and has danced/choreographed for the UWO Dance Company for 8 years & the Hamilton Dance Company for 3 years. She worked as assistant choreographer on “Bella Dancerella – Disney Princess” & “Disney’s High School Musical 2,” “Dora Dance to the Rescue” (DVD) for Spin Master Ltd and on “Get Up & Move” – a dance instructional DVD for Toniolo Productions. Richelle is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Dance at York University. She is thrilled to be invited to work with The Community Players and looks forward to making the magic of theatre come alive!
Brent Roth, Artistic Director
Brent celebrates his 20th year with The Community Players with truly one of his favourite pieces of musical theatre. Brent's love of “Community and of “Theatre”make this one of the best jobs ever. TCP holds such a special place for so many, and it is indeed a thrill to be able to present this ambitious musical production for both our onstage company, as well as our audience.
