Rental FAQ
Q: Who does TCP rent props and costumes to?
A: TCP does not rent props and costumes to individuals. We rent props and costumes to the following groups:
- Arts Community:
- Theatre Companies
- High School Productions
- Community Groups
- Charities - For-profit Businesses
Q: What items does TCP have available to rent?
A: TCP currently has a wide variety of props and costumes for rent – and by a wide variety, we mean it! Of course, recognizing that many groups rent from TCP, rentals are on a first-come-first-served basis. This may mean that not all props and costumes are available all the time; you’re best to check with TCP’s rentals program co-ordinator (rentals@thecommunityplayers.com) before assuming an item is available.

Q: Does TCP charge a fee for rentals? And, if so, what are those fees?
A: As of February 1, 2012, TCP began operating a fee-for-rental rentals program. So, to answer the first question, YES we charge a fee. The shift to charging a fee-for-rental is in response to increased demand for rentals and the continued question from borrowers: “What is a reasonable contribution to give back to TCP for the loan of these materials?” Now to answer the second question. As far as what these rental fees are, it is dependent on the type of group you are, where your group operates out of, whether or not your group has TCP Alumni involvement, and obviously the length of rental. TCP firmly believes that the rental fees assigned to props and costumes are fair – do not worry. After all, the rental program is a key program through which TCP fosters community!
For more information on the exact fee your group would be charged, please forward the name of your organization along with a short description of who the organization is, your location, and a proposed length of rental to rentals@thecommunityplayers.com
*Important note: There are a variety of theatrical groups whom are exempt from the fee-for-rental rentals program; those groups, which prior to the implementation of this program, maintained a “reciprocal borrowing policy”. That policy withstands any current policies.
Q: How long can I rent props/costumes for?
A. The maximum rental period for props or costumes is 3 months. We rent items out on a 3 month, 2 month, 1 month, 2 week, or 1 week basis. We do not do daily rentals. Of course, the fee-for-rental is also based on how long you are renting the items for.
Q: Does TCP deliver?
A: No. TCP does not ship or deliver any rental items. Any groups wishing to take advantage of items must pick them up, as well as deliver them back to TCP storage, based on the terms of the rental. It is up to the group renting the props and/or costumes to ensure you have an ample amount of volunteers to carry out all rented items – which includes climbing quite a few stairs. Of course, you will also need to ensure your vehicle that is transporting your rental is large enough!
Q: Where do we pick up prop and costume rentals from?
A. The site of all of TCP’s props and costumes is located in downtown New Hamburg, Ontario, Canada. For exact location and/or directions please email rentals@thecommunityplayers.com
Q: You didn’t answer my question!
A: Oops, sorry. Please e-mail our rentals program co-ordinator for the answers to all your other questions – rentals@thecommuntiyplayers.com
