Updates

Acting Coach Notes October 29th

What an improvement from last week, great job people! Keep it up.

  1. Cast, any comment on the weather, please look at skies to justify remark
  2. Cast, two households, watch eyelines, do not make eye contact with other household members
  3. “gobbling like wolves” Jill and Leah need to eat like wolves to justify Mary Beth’s line.
  4. Cast, careful of repeated exhales on mic, can be loud and distracting. Make sure it’s intentional and not out of habit.
  5. Nancy, you don’t know where Professor or Mr Webb are entering from. Look around without signalling their entrance.
  6. Mike, beware of clicking of shoes.
  7. Cast, need to all be on the same page where the moon in located for sightlines. Same as Sunrises and Sunsets.
  8. Paige keep impulse to reach out and get into personal bubbles
  9. Isla, keep the struggle up ladder to annoy your brother.
  10. Nancy, need to acknowledge thunder noises.
  11. Jack, need to create different mannerisms for SI vs Joe.
  12. Ryan, for soda shop scene, on knee was real nice. Can you scoot a bit closer to grab Emily’s hand for “Emily, if I do improve and make a big change…would you be…I mean: could you be…
  13. Cast, beware of noise for wedding scene change. Moving stools was loud over Stage Managers lines (already competing with Orchestra)
  14. Kim can you adjust Ryan’s collar sooner in wedding scene
  15. Stage manager acknowledge mic on table, play to microphone for some lines.
  16. “Time” swaying start at cemetery looked sharp. Got wonky afterwards with different swaying speeds and directions.
  17. Grave peoples eyes. Can we decide what we are all collectively doing? If all our movements are in sync then eyes need to either be focused on audience members in front of glazed over?
  18. Review head movements for cemetery scene.
  19. Mary Beth. “I found it on the step when bringing in the milk” postcard book… looks like you’ll have to bring it in with the milk?
  20. How long is Ryan crying for at the end of the show? Tears through black out? or immediately stop when black?

Thank You for Your Feedback and Hard Work

Dear Cast,

I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for bringing your questions and concerns to me this week. I appreciate your attentiveness and commitment to making this production the best it can be. Please know that your concerns have been addressed, and if you notice that any changes have not been made, don’t hesitate to let me know.

It was also wonderful to see so many of you come together on the work day to help bring this show to life. Your dedication and teamwork are truly inspiring.

Everything is looking fantastic with the show, and you should be incredibly proud of your work so far. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together! Thank you again for your dedication and passion.

Warm regards,

Brooke

Dead Make-Up Details

Thanks to Grace for taking notes as Kelsey and Alyssa* (my apologies if I used the wrong spelling) shared how to do the make-up for the people in Act 3.

How to:

Step 1: Very fair foundation

Step 2: purple “blush”

Step 3: powder

Step 4: grey contour

Use brushes, not sponges

Kelsey will bring a cream for hands and arms.

1. Use brushes to apply foundation over entire face and however much their neck will show with their costume. Make sure the foundation covers the lips.

2. Put purple “blush” on cheeks, forehead, chin (essentially all over face again).

3. Set with powder all over the face

4. Contour goes under cheekbones, on forehead, nose, under jawline & chin, and on lips.

Optional (depending on time): put dark colour on eyelids & under eyes

Cast Deets: Tie that Binds, Costumes, Make-Up Lessons

Hi Cast!

A few details!

  1. If you feel comfy singing and being recorded, learn Blest be the Tie that Binds! Music is in the back of your script, but there’s also a youtube video here. Next Sunday (Oct 27th) we will be recording the first verse so we can use it during the funeral scene. (The more people who learn it, the more loved Emily’s character is at her funeral lol)
  2. Tomorrow: Be prepared for being pulled aside for costume fittings — if you have costume pieces you said you’d be bringing, please bring them along too so we can see the full fit
  3. Tomorrow: 4-5pm we will be getting make-up lessons from Hair & Make-up Head Kelsey Gamble, come prepared to learn!

If you have any questions, let me know
