About TCP

Community Theatre at its Very Best

In 1984, a small group of enthusiastic individuals got together to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hamburg with a presentation of Godspell. This production immediately prompted the planning of another, and another. These productions grew and evolved. The group known as Trinity Community Players made a name for themselves with quality productions and a firm grounding in the community, giving back a portion of proceeds back to local causes. Over time, Trinity Community Players became The Community Players of New Hamburg, or more affectionately, TCP.

Considered by many to be one of the finest community theatre organizations in Ontario, TCP continues to present large-scale musicals on the Trinity Theatre stage each spring, and now a fall drama as well. TCP buys locally whenever possible to support local business, and we provide a yearly scholarship to a Waterloo-Oxford D.S.S. student going on to a post-secondary education in the arts.

In May 2019, TCP celebrated their 35th year, staging the epic musical: The Hunchback of Notre Dame to critical acclaim, following up with the equally successful Studio Theatre production of Calendar Girls. The Studio’s intimate 150 seat setting is the perfect environment for audiences and actors alike to immerse themselves in pure drama.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of our 2020 season featuring Beauty and the Beast and To Kill a Mockingbird. Despite these setbacks, TCP has looked to find ways to continue to reach our audience in meaningful ways producing two video revue-style productions (May and December 2020), TakeTwo: A series of Two-Person Plays on stage August 2021 and the May 2022 staging of Murder on the Orient Express.

The Community Players would not exist without the continued passion of our valued partners, our participants and audience. The support you give us and the faith that you place in us allows us to continue to be who we are each year. Whether onstage or off, if you would like to be a part of TCP in any form, please don’t hesitate to contact us through our website, or directly at info@thecommunityplayers.com

We invite you to take part in our theatrical journey!
